Our Instructors

Elizabeth Lanning has been instructing dance for over 20 years. She holds a BA in dance from the University of Washington. She opened EDD in 1992. For over 18 years EDD and Liz are a solid foundation of the dance community, producing highly skilled and educated dancers. Ms. Liz's achievements as a teacher and choreographer are extensive.

Each instructor at Elizabeth's Dance Dimensions is specialized for their dance style. It is EDD's goal to train each dancer to be their best by providing leading dance instructors that are recognized professionals for their art.

Elizabeth Lanning

Elizabeth Lanning has been instructing dance for 20 years. She holds a BA in dance from the University of Washington. She was the creator and director of the professional NBA Seattle Sonics Dance Team in 1987. Liz served as Dance Masters Chapter #39 Performing Arts Competition Director for three years and chapter secretary between 1997 - 2000. She was Eastside Ballet Company's director of Swan Lake for 1989 & 90, Miss Seattle Dancers and Miss Auburn Dancers. Read More About Liz

Eden Stephens
Eden Stephens

Miss Eden has been dancing for 27 years and started at EDD when she was 11 years old. She was a part of the Modazz Performing Company for 7 years, winning Miss Dance of the Pacific Northwest in 1998 and 2000. Eden was part of the EDD Student Teacher Program for 4 years before becoming a member of the EDD Faculty, both as a teacher and choreographer of award-winning Modazz routines. Read More About Eden

Jaret Hughes
Jaret Hughes

Jaret Hughes - EDD's hip hop teacher and choreographer Jaret Hughes has been at the core of Seattle's hip hop and dance scene for many years, going back to his years with the Seattle Supersonics as the first male dancer in the NBA. In addition to his classes, Jaret choreographs award-winning hip hop routines for EDD's Modazz teams, and performs with his professional group Twisted Elegance. Mireya Mascarello
Mireya Mascarello

Mireya grew up in Panama City, Panama where she received her early dance training at Panama’s Escuela Nacional de Danzas. After moving to México, she continued her training and graduated from the Royal Academy of Dance. She joined Ballet de Monterrey in 2004 where she had the privilege of performing in works under the direction of former American Ballet Theater principal dancer, Robert Hill. She has danced in the Pacific Northwest with 127th St. Dance Company, The BJ Movement, Inception Dance Theater and City Opera Ballet. She is excited to start working her first year at EDD.

Michele Kunigk
Michele Kunigk

Miss Michele has been dancing for most of her life, training in tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet and hip hop and teaching by the time she was in high school. She went on to the University of Arizona where she taught and assisted classes while studying Psychology and Dance. She performed in many main stage shows and was also selected to perform as a guest tap group performer in the International Jazz Dance World Congress in 2003 and taught and assisted in tap workshops while there. Mari Engel
Mari Engel

Mari received her early training at Makie Naoi Ballet School. During her Ballet studies, Mari was accepted to a prestigious performing arts academy in Tokyo where she studied acting, theater and majored in dance. After leaving the performing arts academy she joined Nakura Kayoko Jazz Dance Company performing as a dancer with several well-known artists, on the stage, in concerts and on television. She went on to meet Kazco Takamoto and was a founding member of the modern dance company Dance Venus. While a member of Dance Venus she performed at several Concurso De Dance and professionally on stage and television. Read More About Mari

Thomas Phelan
Thomas Phelan

Thomas Phelan is originally from Fort Collins, CO where he received his BA in Performing Arts from Colorado State University. After graduation he spent two years dancing for Alaska Dance Theatre in Anchorage. He then moved to Seattle to begin working with Whim W'Him. Since living in Seattle Thomas has had opportunities performing with Alana Rogers, The Robbie Turner Revue, the House of Verlaine, Ballet Bellevue, Olympic Ballet Theatre, and International Ballet Theatre.

Chessa Chalmers
Chessa Chalmers

Chessa began her dance training locally at the Pacific Northwest Ballet. In order to improve her talents, she left the Pacific Northwest Ballet to study with a private instructor. After several years, she moved to train with Mara Vinson and Oleg Gorbulev at Olympic Ballet Theatre, where she placed in Classical and Contemporary sections at the semifinals of Youth America Grand Prix. She has been awarded scholarships to and attended programs at Ballet Chicago, Oklahoma City Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, Oregon Ballet Theatre, and VIVO Ballet (Rome, Italy) among others. She brings her talent, mentoring and enthusiasm to our EDD students.

Eugenia García Rojas
Eugenia García Rojas

Eugenia has been a dance teacher for over 30 years. She started dancing when she was 6 years old in Mexico City and studied until reaching the Advanced Level from the Royal Academy of Dance. She was a fellow of the Compañía Nacional de Danza and a member of Ballet Arte Neoclásico. She is an ARAD RTS registered teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance of London. Eugenia also has knowledge in jazz, contemporary and character dance. She was owner and director of a dance school, Academia del Desierto, in Mexico City for 9 years where she also worked with challenged kids. After that she moved to Barcelona, Spain where she kept teaching in a number of schools for 7 years. Then she returned to Oaxaca, México where she had another dance school, Espacio de Danza Aguyàa, for four years until 2013 when she moved to Washington. EDD is excited to have Eugenia share her talents with our dancers!

Carmen Downey
Carmen Downey

Carmen Downey, originally from Bellevue, WA began teaching in the Student Teacher program at Elizabeth’s Dance Dimensions in 1994. By her Junior year of high school, Carmen was balancing her schoolwork with dance and company classes while also teaching dance and tumbling classes throughout the Greater Seattle area. Carmen performed with Mo-Dazz Dance Company, Westlake Performance Group, and was an original member of Cruz Control in Seattle, WA. In 2001, Carmen moved to New York City on scholarship to Broadway Dance Center where she trained, performed and taught for 2 years. Carmen worked with RACE Dance Company in Oklahoma as a company member, choreographer, and guest instructor for 5 seasons. She also taught at several of the top studios throughout Oklahoma and worked as the Assistant Director for Vibe Dance Company in Edmond, OK. Carmen’s students have gone on to perform in the National tour of Wicked, as well as, on Broadway in: On The Town, Cats, Dames at Sea, Wicked, and the recently opened original Broadway production of Frozen. Her students have been accepted into the Oklahoma Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain, the Rockette’s Experience & Summer Intensives, and at Jacob’s Pillow. Recently, her students have been featured on the cover of Dance Spirit Magazine, on Dancers of New York Instagram, performed with Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruise lines, Hannah Kahn Dance, NBA Dance Teams, and Ballet Hispanico. Many of her students are now influencing the next generation in the dance community through their work as teachers and choreographers in studios, at conservatories, and at dance conventions all over the USA.
